Tap into the compelling drive that propels a learner toward achieving success.
My Growth Mindset Mission:
To cultivate the confidence to embrace challenges, have faith in hard work, exhibit resilience in adversity, and achieve greater and more innovative accomplishments.
What is a mindset?
A mindset is the view and/or state of being you adopt for yourself that profoundly affects the way you lead your life (Dweck, 2006).
With a growth mindset, one perceives that their talents and abilities can be developed and are not “fixed” or limited. They believe that effort and learning go hand in hand and that basic qualities are not fixed traits but they can be cultivated over time with effort and persistence. A little hard work goes a long way.

Growth
After delving into some reading and research, I discovered that I have a tendency towards a fixed mindset. I often shy away from challenges and sometimes find it easy to give up, though I don't view effort as futile. Reflecting on my behavior, I noticed that I avoid challenges out of a fear of failure or making errors. I used to see challenges as either a success or a failure, without room for improvement or progress. In the face of setbacks, I would quickly give up, thinking that I wasn't capable or intelligent enough compared to others.
Carol Dweck's work opened my eyes to a new perspective on failures and mistakes. I questioned whether my fear of failure was inhibiting my best efforts. Now, after reading "Mindset," I am motivated to change my mindset. I've come to understand that it's not solely about the end goal, but also about the effort and growth along the way. Achievements are a result of the effort put into learning and developing. I aim to transition to a growth mindset, not just for myself but to foster a similar environment for my students.

Key Characteristics of a Growth Mindset:
Embracing challenges and seeing them as opportunities to learn and grow; viewing setbacks as temporary obstacles that can be overcome with effort.
Persistence and effort are essential for achieving mastery. Using setbacks as motivation to try new strategies and not letting failure discourage opportunities to learn and grow.
Learning from criticism and seeing feedback as a constructive tool to learn from and use to refine skills and abilities.
Inspiration from other’s success rather than feeling threatened or envious of someone’s accomplishments or achievements.
Viewing effort as a path to mastery and believing that continuous effort and learning lead to mastery. Understanding that even the great ones had to work hard and overcome obstacles to achieve success.
Adapting to and embracing change.
Being open to new experiences or ways of thinking.

Why is it important for me to cultivate a growth mindset in myself?
If I can transition from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, I will be better equipped to support my students in staying motivated during challenges, fostering their learning, and enhancing their academic performance.
The four steps to developing a growth mindset as identified by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D (2006):
Take the growth mindset action.
Learn to hear your fixed mindset voice.
Recognize that you have a voice.
Talk back to it with a growth mindset voice.
INSTEAD OF
TRY THINKING
I’m bad at this.
I give up.
It’s okay.
I’ll try again
I’m scared of challenges.
I like learning
from challenges
I’m not as smart as my classmate.
My classmate inspires
me to study well.
I don’t need to practice.
I want to improve
and grow.
